Golf tournament raises money for police and animal causes

Break out those golf clubs and show off your golf game for a cause.

The third annual Coldwell Banker Royal Realty Annual Charity Golf Tournament tees off at 10 a.m. on July 28 at Salt Creek Golf Club, 525 Hunt Parkway.

The cost for a single golfer is $145.00, a foursome cost $485; a dinner ticket is $35 and Helicopter ball drop ticket to win $1,0000 only costs $25.

The charity event is in partnership with The Human Animal Outreach Foundation raises funds for the Chula Vista Animal Shelter, the Chula Vista Police Foundation and the Citizens Adversity Support Team.

“We feel that there is no other nonprofits more deserving of our efforts than the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility which is always in a constant struggle to find good homes for deserving pets,” said CBRR Invitational Golf Chair, Scott Vinson.  And the Chula Vista Citizens Adversity Support volunteers which many residents are not aware, provides a response with the police and fire 911 calls when there is a fatality and their sole purpose is to help the survivors through the immediate crisis with sometimes a needed embrace, provision for an overnight hotel, temporary food provisions and other information regarding burial.  We’ve also added the Chula Vista Police Foundation as a benefactor to our event.”

Vinson’s golf tournament started three years ago when the Coldwell Banker corporate office asked all of their brokers to get involved with trying to get 10,000 animals adopted from local animal shelters.

Some brokers held an adoption day  at the office where they brought the animal shelter to the office so emplyoyees can adopt pets. But Vinson decided to host a golf tournament to raise funds for the animal shelter as well as have animals on display for adoption. He said two employees at his office adopted new animals last year. A total of 22,000 pets were adopted last year across the nation because of Coldwell Realty adoption events, Vinson said.

Last year, the tournament raised about $30,000  that was split amongst the animal shelter and the Citizens Adversity Support team. Additionally, a turf company who was a sponsor resurfaced the animal shelter with turf.

“We are now the main revenue generator for the Citizens Adversity Support Team,” Vinson said. “Before they got a little contributions here and there, now their full budget is covered by our golf tournament.”

The event features a helicopter ball drop for a chance to win $1,000.  Before the tournament a helicopter will fly in pick up the sponsor and the basket of numbered balls, fly around the golf course once and then drop the balls. The ball with the number closes to the hole wins the $1,000 prize.

“This has now become probably one of the biggest tournaments in Chula Vista,” Vinson said.
