Co-worker goes to trial

A Chula Vista man was ordered July 13 to stand trial for attempted murder in the shooting of a former co-worker following a personal dispute.

Anthony Hillman Pollock, 37, was also ordered to stand trial for assault with a deadly weapon in the Jan. 28 incident that took place at 6:34 p.m. in the 600 block of Date Street in Chula Vista.

The shooting did not take place at a work site. The victim testified at the preliminary hearing held by Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Francis Devaney, who set a July 27 hearing to schedule a trial date.

The victim was wounded to the side of his abdomen and was taken to the UCSD Medical Center for treatment. Deputy District Attorney Derek Grilz said the bullet hit no organs or vital arteries and exited the body.

Chula Vista Police detective David Beatty also testified. Officers responded to a call of multiple shots fired and arrested Pollock at his residence in the 300 block of Morehouse Place in Chula Vista.

Pollock has pleaded not guilty. A judge set bail at $750,000 at the arraignment and he remains in the George Bailey Detention Facility. Court records say Pollock has previously been convicted of assault in 2003.
