CYT to present ‘The Addams Family’ as finger-snapping post-Halloween treat

As a post-Halloween treat, South County Christian Youth Theater will be present “The Addams Family” at the Mater Dei Catholic High School theater in Chula Vista in early November.

Performance dates are Nov. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices $15 online and $18 at the door.

“The Addams Family” is best remembered by baby boomers as a quirky black-and-white sitcom from the 1960s, and by later generations through feature films (1991’s “The Addams Family” and 1993’s “Addams Family Values”). The premise is the characters are inversions of the typical American family.

The characters were created by cartoonist Charles Addams and first began appearing in The New Yorker magazine in 1938. The TV show ran for 64 episodes from 1964 to 1966 and starred John Astin as Gomez Addams and Carolyn Jones as his wife Morticia.

The film versions starred Raul Julia as Gomez, Anjelica Huston as Morticia, Christina Ricci as Wednesday and Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester.

The CYT cast includes Sergio Contreras as Gomez Addams, Vanessa Orozco as Morticia Addams, Mia Apalatgui as Wednesday Addams, Gavin Musser as Pugsley Addams, Kaede Muller as Uncle Fester, Eliana Medina as Grandma, Joshua Powers as Lurch, Evan Beck as Mal Beineke, Nicole Bild as Alice Beineke and Liam Galleher as Lucas Beineke.

Lucas is Wednesday’s love interest in the musical. He seeks a traditional family blessing for their upcoming marriage, which brings the two families together with hilarious results.

A large ensemble cast completes the production. All 70-plus performers are between the ages of 8 and 18, and are from the South Bay area.
