Bonita Museum and Cultural Center provides venue for young artists

The Bonita Museum and Cultural Center is welcoming the art of The Art Kids of San Diego County through June 20.

The exhibition contains the artwork from 32 different artists, either students or teachers associated with The Art Kids of San Diego County. The exhibition is titled “The Evolution of Kids in the Visual Arts.” Each artist has at least two pieces to represent their work at this exhibition. The art will be displayed according to age and whether they are students or instructors with the Art Kids program.

The youngest artist on display is six years old. Ages go up from there. The oldest artist is 26 and was one of the first Art Kids. He is now a special instructor and advisor to the founder and director of the program. The program is in its 12th year and has been very successful in the instruction of art to the young artists who truly wish to follow this path and make it into a career.

The artwork will not only be on exhibition at the museum but they are also entered into the San Diego County Fair. There are a total of 20 entries to the fair this year (June 5 to July 5).

At the time of registration, there were only 20 students who were taking classes in the program. Since May 1 another three students have joined the organization.

The Art Kids program works with the various communities to help bring attention to the visual arts. The program is geared for those young people who truly love the visual arts and wish to make it an important part of their life. Each new potential student is auditioned and interviewed by the founder and director of the program. If accepted, the student is then placed on scholarship and receives an art education worth $7,500 per year. This translates to year-round lessons and the basic art materials at no cost to the student nor their parents.
